Free Star Parties  October 20; 8:30 – 10 pm and November                                                     

16; 7:30 – 10 pm

Join local astronomers and view the night sky through their big telescopes. The event is on-going, so drop in for the entire time, or just some of the evening. Park in the Nature Center lot and bring a flash light to follow the marked, self-guided path to find the viewing field. This program is cancelled if sky conditions are cloudy or if the viewing field is snowed in; call 781-784-5691 x8103 after 6 pm for a recorded message regarding the status of the program prior to attending.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Moose Hill Walkers

October 15, 22, 29: November 5, 12, 19, 26; December 3, 10, 17; 8 – 9 am

See the arrival of fall while learning the trails for walks later on your own.  Participants must be able to maintain a steady walking pace for the hour.  Walks held rain or shine. Fee for series:  $20 - $30  Fee per walk: Fee $5 -$8

 Stump the Naturalist  Sunday, November 11;   3 – 4 pm

Take a stroll to seek out signs of the season, the oddities of Moose Hill, and anything else we may encounter.  Bring your nature questions. Walk cancelled in case of inclement weather, call prior to attending if the weather is questionable. Free

 Sunday Saunters Sunday, November 18; 3 – 4 pm

Enjoy a relaxed, on-the-trail interpretative walk featuring what each month has to offer.  Follow the progression of fall into winter by attending each month.  Walks are cancelled in inclement weather; call prior to attending if the weather is questionable.  Bring your nature questions and sense of wonder! Free

Do you know where the “puddle tree” is?  Or the official Moose Hill jumping rock?  How about our nature playgrounds? Join naturalist Patti Austin for a tour of all her favorite places at Moose Hill. Trail games and observations will also be included…and perhaps you will discover your favorite place .Fee $5-$8

 Ages 4-6                                                                                                 Halloween Critters

Thursday, October 18; 10 – 11:30 or 1 – 2:30 pm                                                 What animals are associated with Halloween?  Take a peek into the lives of bats, spiders, owls, and other Halloween creatures of the night.  Discover how trick-ortreating started while playing games, enjoying stories, and exploring outdoors.  Fee $8 - $11                                                                                                          Skunks   Wednesday, October 17; 10 – 11:30 or 1 – 2:30 pm

What is black and white and really stinks?  Skunks!  Discover the sweet side of these smelly mammals.  Test your sense of smell, enjoy a story about a bad-smelling animal, and paint a project that smells nice.  Learn what to do if you come across one of these misunderstood critters. Fee $8 - $11

 Chipmunks Song Wednesday, November 7; 10 – 11:30 am or 1 – 2:30 pm

Chipmunks have been seen scampering along stonewalls and their “chip” call has been heard ringing through the forest.  Discover what it would be like to be a chipmunk.  Collect chipmunk treats and leave them by a chipmunk’s door.  Make a chipmunk puppet to keep the nature play going at home. Fee  $8- $11

 Squirrel Antics Thursday, November 8; 10 – 11:30 am or 1 – 2:30 pm

Squirrels are amazing creatures.  They can leap from tree top to tree top, raid just about any bird feeder, and provide endless hours of fun animal observations.  Observe our bird feeders for red and gray squirrels.  Leave piles of seed along the trail for snacks for these amazing creatures.

Ages 6-10

Creep, Leap, Dash, and Fly Tuesday, October 23; 3:30 – 5 pm  

Whether an animal creeps along beneath a fallen log, leaps through tall grass, dashes up a tree, or quickly flies through the air, how animals get around allows them to survive. Investigate the secret world of insects and other small creatures that live in our forests, meadows, and wetlands using sweep nets, bug boxes, and magi scopes to get a closer look. Search for animals while playing games that show you how they eat, hide, move, and even find mates. Join us for a afterschool active, outdoor exploration no matter what the weather.  Fee:  $9- $11   Pre-registration required

 Born to Build Tuesdays, October 30, November 6, 13 and 20, December 4-3:30 – 5 pm 

 Beavers build dams, birds make nests out of everything from grass to mud to string, wasps chew wood into papier-mâché, and spiders construct elaborate webs from their own spinnerets.  Animals build all sorts of homes so they can stay warm, be protected, capture prey, and even raise their young.  Try your hand at replicating some of these homes and get a chance to BUILD your own!  Join us for this afterschool active, outdoor exploration no matter what the weather. Fee $9 -$11 Pre-registration required.

Join us for a multi-media afternoon of art.  Each class will feature the themes listed above through a variety of projects.  Some classes may have outdoor exploration for inspiration. Fee $9 - $11

Knee-High Naturalists

Nature and Science Enrichment for Preschoolers

For ages 3 – 4    9:30 am – 12 noon

Explore the wonders of each season during this special weekly program for young children.  Games, crafts, stories, outdoor nature play, and much more is included each day.  Encourage your child’s natural wonder and positive relationship with nature.  Children must be potty trained and bring a small snack/drink.  For more information, contact Patti Austin at 781-784-5691 or paustin@massaudubon.org.
