You Picked: Old School Pizza Wins Best Place to Get a Sandwich in Wellesley

The popular pizza shop opened last year.

By picking a one-year-old pizza shop to win Wellesley Patch’s first ever “Best Of” poll, Wellesley actually decided to go new school.

, the pizza and sub shop in the downtown area, won the exciting race to this morning’s 9 a.m. deadline finish beating out deli by a decisive 1,073 votes.

At times throughout the week the race between the two restaurants was neck and neck with Linden, a Wellesley sandwich institution for 30 years, leading by only 10 votes on Wednesday. But ultimately, – which received an unprecedented 12,899 votes – went to Old School Pizza with a total of 6,875 votes to Linden’s 5,802.

Owner Joe Perdoni said he heard his shop was doing well on the poll throughout the week, but never expected these results.

“The way I found out was from the kids coming in and telling me,” he said. “I heard from students, students, the kids at the high school, kids, and people from []. They all knew about it.”

Old School serves up a great chicken cutlet sandwich and solid pies. The regalia on the walls , befitting of the shop’s name.

The Perdonis has longstanding ties to town as well. The Wellesley-based construction firm that bears the family name has been a fixture in Wellesley for decades.

Perdoni said he’s happy for the bragging rights in Wellesley Patch’s biggest poll ever, and he appreciates the support from the community.

“I guess hard work does pay off,” he said. “Now we’ll wait until you do ‘best pizza.’”

The Linden Store deserves major credit for its second place finish with 5,802 votes, as the third place finisher – Tutto Italiano – received 174.
