Victim of Sunday Rollover Identified as New Hampshire Man

The 47-year-old suffered fatal injuries in the crash, police said.

Massachusetts State Police have identified the victim in as a 47-year-old Manchester, New Hampshire man.

The name of the victim, who died as a result of the accident, is being withheld pending notification of his family, police said in a statement Sunday. 

The rollover occurred around 7:18 a.m. on Sunday, when the New Hampshire man lost control of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck he was driving.

The truck reportedly drifted to the left and off of the highway near Exit 21 on Rte. 128 in Newton, before crossing all travel lanes and finally leaving the road on the right-hand side, rolling over and coming to rest in the travel and breakdown lanes. 

The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries, according to the police statement.

Two passengers in the vehicle were identified as Douglas Valpey, 52, and Mark Valpey, 26, both of Warner, New Hampshire. Both suffered minor injuries and were not transported to a nearby hospital. State Police would not comment on their relation to the victim in the accident. 

The accident caused authorities to close all lanes of the highway for a brief period of time to accommodate the crash response and investigation. The breakdown and right-hand lanes remained closed until 10:16 a.m., according to Sunday's statement.

What actually caused the accident is currently under investigation. The Wellesley Fire Department, Wellesley EMS and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's Highway Division all assisted State Police in the incident on Sunday.
