Time to Think About Summer Camp

Patch Picks wants to know where your kids go away to camp every summer.

The snow is just about melted and soon the weather will be warm. This time of year usually means people begin thinking about summer camp.

This afternoon, asks where your kids go away to camp each season? Do they stay local or travel throughout New England? Do they go to sports-based camps or camps that cater to the arts? Perhaps science camp is where your child thrives?

Wellesley Patch seeks to learn of the best area summer camps for our column this afternoon, so feel free to leave some suggestions in the comments or e-mail the editor (Bret.Silverberg@patch.com). So far we have some great suggestions, but we'd love to know more. Be sure to tell us why you’ve chosen that camp or why you’re thinking about choosing it.

Check back around 3 p.m. to see the list of area summer camps we’ve compiled.

Our son has gone to the Birch Rock Camp in Waterford Maine for the last 7 summers. This year, he will be a counselor, having come up the ranks at this traditional boys' camp on Lake McWain where waterfront activities, field sports, and camp craft activities are king. The camp is small - 85 boys - and the motto is "Help the Other Fellow," so each camper knows everyone at camp and learns to be polite and respectful in a wonderful community of men. Frankly, I don't know a better place for boys to grow during the summer!

We send our daughter to a few local camps for fun in the summer: 1. she goes to Miss Michelle's Center for the Performing Arts for a few sessions, it's a great way for her to keep dancing after the regular classes have ended for the year. They learn so much each day in all types of dance! 2. she has enjoyed Tenacre Country Day Camp before 3. she wants to return to BSC Wellesley for a few weeks this summer as she loves their swimming program and laser tag!

Our kids will attend the new Wellesley Theatre Project production camps. There is something for all ages. They can't wait!
