Five Things You Need to Know Today: November 28

Five things for Needham and Wellesley today.

1. The National Weather Service is predicting a similar day to yesterday: a 30 percent chance of snow before noon, and some rain or sleet afterward, gradually becoming clear. According to a Special Weather Statement, the snow will give way to slippery conditions.

2. The Drawing Collaboration in Wellesley Square continues today. Head over to the empty storefront at 98 Central St in Wellesley to check out the art, inspired by student reactions to short stories written by Argentinian writer Julio Cortazar.

3. Pour yourself a cup o' joe, and learn some more about the coffee craze as it hit Japan at the turn of the century. That is Wellesley College Botanic Gardens' presentation today, "Coffee Life in Japan" with BU professor Merry White. It kicks off at noon, and will set you back $15.

4. In another context, a flipped classroom or a broken silo could be a bad thing--but the Needham Education Foundation is looking at ways to apply them to schools. That's the subject of "Flipped Classrooms and Broken Silos: Education Trends in Needham and Beyond" which is at the Newman Elementary School in Needham at 7 p.m. tonight.

5. If you are interested in one day hiking or biking the Bay Colony Rail Trail, then perhaps you'll be interested in what the Bay Colony Rail Trail Open Meeting has to say today. Well, at 7:30 p.m., they will be at Needham's Public Services Administration Building, and you are welcome.
