Area Under Flash Flood Watch Tonight, Tomorrow

Weather alert for heavy rain and rising rivers in effect from 10 p.m. through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather alert, specifically warning against the possibility of flash floods as a heavy rain storm expected for this evening  enters the area.

Norfolk County, along with other portions of eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut were all under the warning, according to the National Weather Service. After 10 p.m., torrential showers and thunderstorms are expected in the affected area until Wednesday afternoon.

At some times, the rainfall is predicted to reach rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour, possibly causing rapid rises in small rivers and streams. The alert warns drivers in particular to beware flooding in areas such as underpasses, low-lying areas and other spots with poor drainage.
