5 Things You Need to Know Today: October 21

1.     There is a debate tonight at Wellesley Town Hall. Write-in candidate Royall Switzler will take on incumbent Alice Peisch in the final debate before next Tuesday's election. The two are vying for the 14th Norfolk district state representative seat. Switzler, who was not going to run until urged to by supporters long after the paper filing deadline for all candidates, received over 300 write in votes to make the bill. This is his return to politics after nearly a 20-year absence, while Peisch has held the seat since 2003.  The debate starts at 7:00 p.m.

2.     Just upstairs there will be a public hearing by the Zoning Board of Appeals to determine  whether or not there will be a CVS on Worcester Street built in the near future. This hearing is continued from a Sept. 23 hearing in which the ZBA expressed concern over the location on behalf of area abutters and neighbors. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m.

3.     Paul Frommer will speak at Wellesley College tonight. Who is he? He invented the language used by the fictitious Na'vi people in the blockbuster-hit film Avatar. Frommer is the professor emeritus of clinical management communication at the University of Southern California. His lecture will touch off a new course at Wellesley called "Invented Languages." The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m.

4.     Healthy Habits Kitchen is giving wine away! Actually, not quite, but the staff will greet all participants to their Around the World Wine and Food Workshop with a glass of sparkling wine .
