Winter Landscaping: What You Need to Know to Sell Your Natick Home Faster

How to make the most of your landscaping, even during the winter.

Sometimes it seems nearly impossible to maintain a garden and attractive landscaping during the winter, but with the right approach you can increase your home’s curb appeal and even sell your home faster in the Natick real estate market.

While you may not be able to add a lot of new plants or take advantage of leafy trees and blossoming flowers, these tips can help you make the most of winter landscaping.

Clear Debris and Dead Plants

Make sure leaves are raked out of your yard and gardens and that debris like sticks, dead grass and anything else that has found its way into your yard is removed. These things distract from your landscaping and make your home look unkempt.

Trim Shrubs and Trees

During the winter, the branches on your shrubs and trees tend to stand out more. There may not be any leaves on them, but those overgrown boughs are very visible and can make your yard look untidy. Be sure to keep trees and shrubs trimmed and shaped for excellent curb appeal.

Use Yard Decorations to Your Advantage

Another thing that stands out right now is yard decorations. Things like pathways, fountains, bird feeders, planters, outdoor furniture and other yard decorations are easier to see because they aren’t hidden by plant growth. Use this to your advantage by making sure decorations are arranged well, complement your home, fill in bare places, add balance to your landscaping and help you highlight special features.

Clear Pathways of Snow

Shovel your driveway, walkways, porch and patio so they aren’t covered in snow. This makes your landscaping look cleaner and also makes it possible for potential buyers to see all the features your home has to offer. Another reason to keep these areas clear of snow and salted for ice is to make it easier for buyers to get to your house to see the inside.

Fill Pots and Planters with Winter-Friendly Décor

Use pots, planters and window boxes even during the winter. If you have had them outside, empty out the dead plants and fill them with plants that can survive the cold or artificial plants. Another way to add color and interest is to use colored planters or fill them with things like pine boughs, berry-covered branches, pinecones, ornaments or other festive decorations.

Even though it’s winter, and your garden may not be looking its best, there are still some things you can do to increase your curb appeal and show off your landscaping. For more tips on winter landscaping and showing your home during the holidays, visit the Christine Norcross & Partners website.
