Special TM Will Seek Approval for St James The Great Church Land

Seeking purchase approval for St James, The Great Church during Town Meeting.

Wellesley selectment discussed the deal they have signed with the Archdiocese of Boston to purchase St James, the Great Church.  The property consist of  8 acres on Rt 9. There has been conversation regarding the use of the land for a pool, skating rink and more.  The puchase would be finance by the Community Preservation Act funds.

The Catholic church closed the church in 2004 and the parishioners refused to let it go.  They have been very faithful in keeping their church alive.

The agreement, signed Monday and posted on the town’s website, is contingent upon Town Meeting approval, according to Hans Larsen, Wellesley’s Executive Director.

The town will hold a Special Town Meeting on June 13 to seek approval for the purchase of the church. No one knows what will happen.  I heard the deal is contingent on the the completion of the appeals process.
