Wellesley Marketplace: Creative Haiti Artwork

Starting in Cite Soleil, Port au Prince, Haiti, Haitian artisans have produced handcrafted tin artwork to be sold by Wellesley High school students locally. In addition to purchasing and selling the tin art, the Global Marketing class recognized the importance of educating themselves as well as the local community about the political and economic conditions in Haiti. The joint venture between Wellesley High’s Global Marketing class and Haitian artisans has given them even more than just employment. The Creative Haiti organization donates over 95% of sales profits to public charities in Haiti to revitalize the community and facilitate many Haitians opportunities for education in several fields. In addition, a portion of your purchase is tax deductable. Dr. Larry Kaplan, who founded Cite Soleil Opportunity Council frequently travels to Haiti to purchase and ship the artwork back to Wellesley, as well as provide medical care at a Haiti Clinic. After several in class lectures on the trials and tribulations of doing business in a foreign nation, Dr. Kaplan an d the global marketing class have teamed up to package, and organize all the artwork to be sold. If you are interested in purchasing this unique artwork and supporting this cause, the Global Marketing class will have booth no. 229 at the Wellesley Marketplace, on Saturday, November 23rd.
