Generous vendors have donated over 70 Decorated Christmas Trees to Support the Massachusetts Horticultural Society

WELLESLEY, MA - December 9, 2013 - For a fourth year, LINX, Wellesley’s leading enrichment club for children and teens, has donated two uniquely decorated Christmas trees, to be raffled off during the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s 5th annual Festival of Trees.  The fundraiser takes place November 29th through Dec 15th 2013, at The Gardens at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA.   Over 70 trees will be raffled and the proceeds will benefit the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.

The trees donated by LINX this year are approximately 7 feet tall, and incorporate the themes of LINX’s camps, Discovery Grove and Outward Adventures.  The “Discovery Grove Tree” is made from chicken wire, with hundreds of individual sunflowers and white Christmas lights.  The “Outward Adventures Tree” is crafted from seven fishing poles, with colorful karabiners used as ornaments.  A climbing rope serves as garland for the tree, and two fully stocked tackle boxes are stored underneath for the lucky winner.   The winner of each tree is entitled to one free week of the respective camp.  Josh Schiering, Vice President/Executive Director of LINX, and Katie Preisig, LINX Leader and Assistant Camp Director, came up with the nonconventional designs together.  In years past, LINX’s donated trees included a canoe tree and a palm tree.  “I love the holiday season, and Christmas tree decorating in particular. It's so great how many organizations get involved and donate their time and effort into creating what I would consider to be works of art,” said Preisig.  There is always a lot of excitement over the trees.  Preisig heard someone comment that she knew of someone who would be sure to enter for the Outward Adventure Tree because she had many grandchildren who love to fish.
