Leading Minds in Business, Benefits, Human Resources, and Health Care Policy Brought Expertise & Insight to Sun Life Wake Up Summit 2013

Emmy Award-winning journalist and Fox News Contributor Juan Williams joined health care reform policy expert Dr. Jonathan Gruber, Sun Life Financial U.S. President Wes Thompson and Sun Life Financial U.S. Vice President, Marketing Ed Milano to host the first ever Sun Life Wake Up Summit

 

The in-depth program, moderated by Williams, brought together leading voices in health care reform and employee benefits from the academic, business, insurance, and health care policy arenas for a 360 degree discussion that informed insurance brokers, human resources professionals, and business owners about health care reform, its impact on the employee benefits landscape and practical advice on how to prepare for the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Summit featured a live audience at WCVB TV-5 studios in Needham, Mass., and was broadcast live via web stream on Sun Life’s website. Video of the Summit is available here: sunlife.com/us.

The Summit, kicked off with a keynote address by Gruber, titled “Health Care Reform Now: Facts, Rumors, True Stories.” The first discussion, “Health Care Reform: A Practical Guide for Your Company,” focused on what brokers, employers and HR professionals need to consider in the short term regarding the ACA, including common misconceptions about reform, the best and worst aspects of the law, dealing with its complexities, impact and opportunity for brokers and how to tame unintended consequences. Mike Ferguson, COO, Self-Insurance Institute of America Inc.; Barbara Gniewek, Principal, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Carol Harnett, Benefits Consultant lent their expertise.

The second panel discussion, “Health Care 2020: What Will Tomorrow’s Health Care Look Like?,” brought together Anat Baron, Former Head of Mike’s Hard Lemonade & Change Strategist/Disruptor; Jeff Bauer, Health Futurist, Medical Economist and Coleman Peterson, Former Executive Vice President, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for a discussion on the future of health care and workplace benefits, including how practices being implemented today will change the American workplace of 2020.
