Whyman’s teaching experience includes his role as site director at Harvard Vanguard for the Patient Doctor 2 course at Harvard Medical School. In this course, second year Harvard medical students learn crucial skills, including history taking, physical examination and presenting patient information in oral and written forms. Whyman coordinates all activities for the course including curriculum design, recruiting faculty and teaching.

“Having the opportunity to teach medical students every year is very gratifying as I help them develop into skilled, empathic physicians,” Whyman said. “One day, these bright, enthusiastic students will be taking care of all of us.”

The Robert H. Ebert Excellence in Teaching Award is given to Harvard Vanguard clinicians who make outstanding contributions to teaching. Harvard Vanguard clinician-teachers help other clinicians adapt to a changing healthcare environment by affirming the traditional values of patient care and by helping students and colleagues learn how to manage quality and cost of care efficiently.
