The Local Wellesley Looking To Replace China Sky

11 Forest Street location soon to be filled by popular gastropub from West Newton.

In Mid-December, after China Sky shuttered its doors, we asked What Should Replace China Sky?

One user seems to have hit the nail on the head, as Jim Montalto wrote simply, "The Local." A story on the Swellesley Report says that rumors of the West Newton-based gastropub eyeing a space in Wellesley are not exaggerated

See the full story on The Swellesley Report.

The Newton location opened in 2008. In October 2011, Frank Santo, owner of The Local Restaurant, sat down with Newton Patch to talk more about the restaurant there and his other projects.

“The customer is my boss,” he told Newton Patch. “Everyone has a boss and the customer is mine. They tell me what they want, and that’s what I do.”

Launched in 2004, China Sky closed its doors in December with a note saying they were making repairs--however, that may not be the case.

I think it is great that The Local would want to open a location in Wellesley but I can't figure out why a pub would want to open in a town where you can't be served a beer or a glass of wine without eating an entire meal?
