The Business of Yoga: Babson to Host Event on Hot Exercise Trend

The event will include a panel discussion and yoga class on the Babson campus.

There is no trend or business idea won’t tackle. With the yoga fad in full swing, Babson has jumped in with an event about the history, culture, art and business of yoga next week.

On March 13, Babson’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership will present “Empowered by Mind, Body, and Soul: How Women are Transforming the Yoga Industry.”

The three-part event will include a panel discussion including yoga thought leaders, a screening of the documentary “Yogawoman” and a complimentary yoga class at Glavin Chapel.

The event is from 5 to 8:30 March 13 at Babson campus.

Here is the schedule, provided by Babson:

  • Yoga as Practice
    5-5:45 p.m., The Glavin Family Chapel
    This complimentary yoga class will be led by Lynne Begier, Founder of the famed Back Bay Yoga Studio in Boston. The class will take place in The Chapel, overlooking Babson’s pristine campus. Please bring your mat! 
  • Yoga as Business - A Panel Session
    6-6:45 p.m., Olin Auditorium 
    Yoga, a $6 billion dollar industry, is one of the few industries that expanded since the recession. Join us for an evening with yoga’s thought leaders and entrepreneurs: Karissa Azonabor, Regional Manager, lululemon athletica,: Lynne Begier, Founder, Back bay Yoga Studio: and Alexandra Curtiss, Chief Yoga Officer, Yoga Source Boston, to explore the business of yoga, and how and why women are driving the growth of this booming industry. Babson’s Danna Greenberg, author of The New Entrepreneurial Leader, will moderate the panel.
  • Yoga as Art - YOGAWOMAN - A Screening
    7-8:30 p.m., Olin Auditorium 
    This acclaimed documentary presents a generation of women from around the world who are leading the yoga movement. They’re strong, they’re inspiring, and they’re radically changing lives. From the busy streets of Manhattan to the dusty slums of Kenya, YOGAWOMAN uncovers the ways that women have changed the face of yoga forever.
