Wellesley artist to give demo in Needham

The Needham Art Association will be meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2 at the Needham Library. Artist, Nan Rumpf will be there to give a demo on acrylic drip resist (an experimental watercolor technique).

         Nan Rumpf is a water media artist who currently lives in Wellesley Massachusetts. She has worked as a professional puppeteer, designing and constructing her own puppets and masks. She organized dramatic arts workshops in public schools and libraries for twenty years. She wrote and illustrated the book Puppets and Masks: Stagecraft and Storytelling published by Davis Publications.

    She has studied watercolor painting with Susan Swinand, Jane Goldman, Paul George, Charles Reid, Miles Batt, and Cheng Khee Chee.

She likes to experiment with different methods to obtain accidental texture. These experiments motivate her develop her watercolor paintings in a responsive painting style. Making one change often strongly suggests the next. She is attempting to capture the essence of form, shape, color and value from observations, memories, and imaginings.

            She teaches adult art classes and workshops at The Danforth Museum School in Framingham, The Concord Art Association, and Post Road Art Center in Marlborough. She has also instructed students as a visiting artist at Framingham State University. Some of her artwork can be seen on her website.

The meeting and art demo will take place in the Community Room in the Needham Public Library at 1139 Highland Avenue. It is wheelchair accessible. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. The Needham Art Association enriches Needham by exhibiting over 500 paintings in town locations every year. It welcomes new members.
