The first storm of 2014 is underway as the initial flakes began falling after midnight on Thursday. During the day on Thursday there will be some accumulation, though much of the snow will come Thursday night into Friday before the storm ends by Friday afternoon.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Needham is to get  8 to 14 inches of snow. There will be “considerable blowing and drifting snow with near blizzard conditions possible at times tonight into Friday morning,” according to the website.

“The snow will become heavier tonight and winds will also increase. This will result in dangerously low wind chills.”
