Newton-Wellesley Hospital's First 2013 Baby Born 12:08 a.m.

She may not be the first baby of the new year, but the first birth certificate marked Jan. 1, 2013 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital belongs to a baby girl named Ahaana.

Born at 12:08 a.m. to mother Sameeta Bilgrami and father Prem Ramasamy of Waltham, Ahaana Prem weighed 6 lbs 15 oz. Newton-Wellesley Hospital spokeswoman Rachel Kagno says she is their first child, and was three days early. Per their custom, baby Ahaana takes her father's first name as her last name.

Baby Ahaana was about eight minutes later than a baby on the Cape, who WVCB says may have been Massachusetts' first baby born in the New Year: baby Max Benjamin Pierre was born five seconds after midnight to mother Marie Meritus.
