The Hammond Performing Arts Series Presents Sarita Kowk and Wei-Yi Yang

Chestnut Hill, MA – November 13, 2013 – Saul Cohen, President of Hammond Residential Real Estate in Chestnut Hill, is pleased to announce that violinist Sarita Kwok and pianist Wei-Yi Yang will perform the works of Janacek, Debussy, Prokofiev, and Ravel at the next Hammond Performing Arts Series concert on Sunday, November 24 at 3 p.m. at the Weston Library, 87 School Street, Weston, MA.

Australian violinist Sarita Kwok has been featured on stages in Australia, New Zealand, England, Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Israel, Japan, and the United States, and has performed as a soloist with the major symphony orchestras in her home country. She was the first violinist of the Alianza String Quartet, formed in 2004 at the Yale School of Music, and she also frequently performs as part of the Arabella String Quartet. She won the grand prize at the Plowman National Chamber Music competition in 2007, first prize at the Chamber Music Foundation of New England International Competition in 2008, and has held numerous residencies, including at the Pacific Music festival, and the French Academy in Rome. Ms. Kwok has presented master-classes at Wellesley College, Central Connecticut State University, University of the Pacific, SUNY Buffalo, and the New Zealand School of Music. She received both the Doctoral and Masters of Musical Arts degrees from the Yale School of Music, where she presently sits on the faculty and is Director of the Undergraduate Lessons Program.

Pianist Wei-Yi Yang has earned acclaim from critics and audiences worldwide for his performances in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. His playing has been heard on NPR, PBS, Arte (Association Relative á la Télévision Européenne), and ABC (Australian Broadcasting Company), as well as on recordings by Ovation, Albany Records, Renegade Classics, and the Holland-America Music Society. He has been invited to festivals such as Novi Sad, Serbia; Konstanz, Germany; Kotor, Montenegro; and La Jolla California. His interest in interdisciplinary projects has led to a collaboration with English actress Miriam Margolyes as part of the “Dickens’ Women” world tour, and a lecture/recital on the confluence of music and literature in Czech culture as seen through the works by Janacek and Kundera. Yang has collaborated with composers to premiere their works, including Jonathan Cole’s Piano Trio and Ezra Laderman’s Jersey Rain (a song cycle with texts by poet laureate Robert Pinsky). He studied with Boris Berman at the Yale School of Music, where he earned his D.M.A. in 2004. He is a founding member of the Soyulla Ensemble and the recipient of the McKnight Fellowship. In 2005, Yang joined the faculty of the Yale School of Music, where he is Associate Professor (Adjunct) of Piano.
