During the last taping session of Gil Stubbs’ World of Magic, at the Wellesley Community Center, the audience got a chance to learn about where the material to perform tricks comes from and different ways to use these highly specialized props. Later this month, on Wednesday, March 19 at 4:00PM our next guest is Kevin Butler who hails from the South Shore. Kevin is an English teacher by education and taught in the City of Boston for many years and became a guidance counselor for many years thereafter.
We now have an opportunity to receive some ‘guidance’ on Magical Literacy.

”I've always loved magic shows from the first time I saw one when I was 8 years old and the local movie house had a magic show on a Saturday morning. After that whenever there was a magician on TV, oftentimes on a variety show like the Ed Sullivan show, I made sure to see his performance. I was a spectator enjoying the magic I saw with no thought of being a magician. My career path was first graduate from high school, then graduate from college, and then I was an English high school teacher in Boston and after that a guidance counselor in Braintree for 36 years. It was wonderful but I was still a spectator to magic”, said Kevin.

Fast forward nine years and Kevin has performed magic shows at the Puppet Theater in Brookline, at the Grace Episcopal Church in Medford, at the North Community Church in Marshfield and in fund raising events of IBM (International Brotherhood of Magicians). In addition, he has performed shows in Connecticut and even as far away as Isla Mujeres, Mexico, not to be confused with Isla de Muerta from Pirates of the Caribbean! He enjoys performing for children and families.
Like all serious students of the art of magic, Kevin has assumed a position of leadership in one the top magician organizations, known as IBM, as referenced above in their Boston Ring 122 and a member of the Society of American Magicians, known as SAM.
With words like ‘ring’ and ‘society’ it sounds like we are about to become more literate on the subject of magic.
