Community Corner

Fun Run, Fun Fair for Kids is Saturday, March 15

This winter has left us all hungry for entertaining indoor activities. Consider the Wellesley Community Children’s Center FUN RUN & FUN FAIR as the feel good buffet your family has been craving.

The 34th Annual FUN RUN & FUN FAIR will be on Saturday, March 15th from 8:30am-12:00pm. This year it will be held once again in the Dorothy Towne Field House at Wellesley College’s Keohane Sports Center – the perfect indoor facility for a fun family day, rain or shine.

“The WCCC FUN RUN is an exciting event that brings the community together and allows the children to participate in a wide variety of fun filled activities,” says Andy McPhee a WCCC parent and FUN RUN volunteer. “For many, the highlight is the race down the track which emphasizes participation in a supportive and enthusiastic setting.”

The main event each year is the races that are held for children ages 3 to 12.  The younger children run (some blissfully meander or skip) to the finish line. The older kids tend to put their best foot forward on their race to the end. There is even a Toddler Run to keep the one and two-year-olds on their toes. However they get there, everyone earns a bright green Fun Run participation ribbon.  This year as a special treat, California Pizza Kitchen will give one CPK coupon to every child who participates in the race!!

In addition to the fun running events, the spread of activities that comprise the Fun Fair will make any kids’ mouth water. Favorite kid pleasing games and activities returning this year include face painting, ring toss, sports games such as soccer shoot-outs, Frisbee toss, and lollipop pulls. Everyone earns a prize!  Instead of waiting in long lines for tickets, hand stamps can be purchased at the event for $10 for individuals or $25 for the entire family. One stamp allows children to get their faces painted and play as many games as they wish, as many times as they wish.

The Fun Run is also a great opportunity for parents to learn about independent schools in the area. This year representatives from Fay School, The Chestnut Hill School, The Rashi School, The Tobin School, Charles River School, the Tremont School, Jackson-Walnut Park School will be available to answer any questions about their school’s admissions process or curricular philosophies.

The FUN RUN would not be possible without the tremendous support it receives from the following sponsors: Wellesley Bank, Babson College, First Republic Bank, Dr. Paul Johnson, Wellesley College, Middlesex Savings Bank, Advanced Sports Therapy in Wellesley, Wellesley Gentlemen’s Society and Natick Dental Partners. Delicious food for purchase including bagels, donuts, yogurt, fruit and coffee is donated by Trader Joe’s, Donelan’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Sysco, Roche Bros, A. Russo & Sons, Stop & Shop, Sodexho and California Pizza Kitchen.

The entry fee for runners is $7. Register online at wccc.wellesley.edu or in person at LittleBits Toy stores in Natick or Wellesley.

All proceeds from the FUN RUN benefit programs for the Wellesley Community Children’s Center. WCCC was established in 1971 to provide quality childcare for working families. At its Early Childhood Program on the Wellesley College Campus and After School sites in the Wellesley Public Schools and the Fells Library, WCCC has grown to provide quality programs each year for over 400 children ages 3 months through middle school.

So come hungry for fun. We promise you’ll leave very satisfied.
