Wellesley College Students, A Century Ago

What was it like to be a student at Wellesley College 100 years ago? A new gallery on the Wellesley Wire gives a glimpse into student life "way back when."

What was it like to be a student at Wellesley College 100 years ago? Averi Gutierrez, a senior Cinema and Media Studies & Art History major, created a gallery of images that's now posted to the Wellesley Wire which gives a glimpse into what student life might have been like "way back when."

The gallery includes images of College Hall, which was destroyed by fire in the early hours of the morning on March 17, 1914. Though no lives were lost, Wellesley College suffered the loss of it's most central building on campus. As the College rebuilt, nine major buildings were constructed in the next 17 years, and the academic center of the campus was relocated atop Norumbega Hill. A group of residence halls, known as Tower Court, are located on top of the hill where the old College Hall once stood.

Visit the gallery to enjoy a short trip back in time --  including a look at old school sports teams, dorm rooms, and student activities.
