We are part of a new course offered across Wellesley College, Olin College of Engineering, and Babson College, called Introduction to Sustainability. It is part of a new three-college Sustainability Certificate Program, designed to give students in all three colleges and introduction to the tools and skills for integrating business, engineering, and the liberal arts in the pursuit of environmental sustainability.
For our case material in the course, students have been evaluating the sustainability of a section of the town of Wellesley. They have learned a number of concepts and tools in the course, and used them to characterize, understand, and make recommendations related to the environmental sustainability of this section of the town, with a particular focus on transportation, water, waste, food energy, and built environment.
We would like to invite you to the public presentation of the students’ work. This presentation will take place on Thursday, December 13th, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Whitin Observatory at Wellesley College. We will begin promptly with a wine-and-cheese (and other food from our study block) reception and an opportunity for you to look at data and analysis from the early parts of the project. Student groups will then give brief oral overviews of what they think the most important, interesting, or realistic approaches to improving sustainability on the block would be, and we will conclude with an opportunity for you to see the more in-depth, visual representation of student recommendations and speak with the student groups about their recommendations. You are welcome for all or any part of the presentation.
The presentation will take place at the Whitin Observatory. A map of the Wellesley college campus can be found here: http://www.wellesley.edu/Map/
