BU Professor Merry White traces Japan's vibrant cafe society over 130 years from Japan's coffee craze at the turn of the 20th century, when Japan helped to launch the Brazilian coffee industry, to the present day. Her talk takes up themes as diverse as gender, privacy, perfectionism and urbanism. Merry's book will be available for purchase and signing by the author. Coffee will be served.
Price is $10 for Friends of Wellesley College Botanic Gardens and Arnold Arboretum members, $15 for non-members. Pre-registration required.
