Film & Reading: Tarkovsky's "Stalker" & Geoff Dyer's "Zona"

On Sunday afternoon, escape to a room that grants wishes in a mysterious and forbidden territory in the Russian wilderness where nothing is as it seems...

Andrei Tarkovsky's classic film Stalker (1979) follows three men -- the Scientist, the Writer, and the Stalker -- as they travel through the "Zone." Join Wellesley College's Cinema & Media Studies Department for a screening of the film on Sunday, November 11 at 3:00 PM in the Collins Cinema.

Then, on Monday at 4:30 PM, delve a little deeper into the story when author Geoff Dyer visits Wellesley's Susan and Donald Newhouse Center for the Humanities to discuss his book Zona, which examines the film. Read the New York Times review, "A Place of Our Deepest Desires: Geoff Dyer’s ‘Zona’ Examines the Film ‘Stalker’ (March 2012).

Both events are free and open to the public. Parking on campus is also free.

Dyer visit is the last of the Wellesley College Distinguished Writers Fall 2012 series. The Spring 2013 series begins on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 4:30PM with critically acclaimed fiction author, Pulitzer Prize winner (2008) and MacArthur Fellow (2012) Junot Díaz.
