Wellesley Kid Meets Invisible Giants at Franklin Park

Part of the ParkSCIENCE Children's Festival, science in the park introduces a Wellesley 6-year-old to invisibly giants.

Local kids run into invisible giants. A Wellesley 6-year-old, Brook Simko, joined scientists at ParkSCIENCE Children's Festival, held at Franklin Park last Wednesday.

Instructor Shannon Morey heated an aluminum, which pushes some of the air out of the can. Morey, of MIT, then dunked the cans in cold water causing them to collapse as if they were crushed in the hand of a giant. This is caused by the rapid condensation of the air in the cold, which creates a partial vacuum.
