St. James Study Committee Meets Tomorrow

Archdiocese: Landscapers maintaining grounds regularly.

While the town refines its plans to redevelop the long-closed St. James the Great church lot in the event it can be purchased, landscapers visited the property Friday for what the Archdiocese of Boston said is routine maintenance.

Landscapers trimmed the shrubs outside the St. James The Great church Aug. 20, unloading equipment from an unmarked pickup truck. The landscapers politely declined to give their names or the name of the company performing the work.

"We do try to keep property up, including closed parishes," said Terrence Donilon, secretary for communications at the Archdiocese of Boston. Photos of the site taken a few months ago show landscapers have been paying regular attention to the property.

The St. James Study Committee will meet tomorrow at Town Hall, 5 p.m., to hear an update on plans to redevelop the property, said Selectman Chairman Katherine "Gig" Babson. The committee is waiting on the report from Bill Seymour of Gayle Associates from his July meeting with the Playing Fields Task Force. Also, she said, Colliers, Meredith & Grew,  which was hired by the town in July, will assess the St. James property's market value at the end of the month.
