School Committee Approves Consultant to Assist with Superintendent Search

Consulting firm Future Management Systems will assist with the search for a new Wellesley superintendent of schools.

The Wellesley School Committee unanimously voted in favor of a consult to assist with Wellesley’s search for a new superintendent to replace Bela T. Wong, who announced she would be resigning the job at the end of the school year, at a morning meeting yesterday.

Future Management Systems based in Beverly will begin working with the School Committee and the Advisory Search Committee to find the next superintendent of schools.

Chris Ketchen, deputy director of general government, made the decision using information provided by the Advisory Search Committee, he said in a phone interview following the meeting.

Ketchen said Future Management Systems best met the committee’s criteria following interviews.

“They gave the best description of their project plan,” he said.

Five other firms responded to a December request for proposals. Future Management Systems submitted a bid of $18,513, which is a little more than $500 above the low bid, Ketchen said. But he felt the company was best suited for the job.

“I determined the stronger proposal was worth the extra money,” he said.

Future Management Systems takes an “active and aggressive” recruitment approach, Ketchen said. The company has assisted in successful placements in Wayland and Hamilton-Wenham.
