Wellesley Police Provide Video Update of Sexual Assault Investigation
Police say the suspect could be armed.
***Update 4:39 p.m.***
Lt. Marie Cleary of the Wellesley Police Department told Wellesley Patch that police are still looking for the suspect after an extensive ground search of the Edmunds Road neighborhood earlier this afternoon.
"We’re confident the suspect is no longer in the area," she said.
All neighboring police agencies are aware and monitoring the situation, Cleary added.
***Update 3:48 p.m.***
Police presence in the area has thinned substantially. Edmunds Road is now passable, though police are still blocking access from Route 9 West.
Wellesley Police are looking for a possibly armed suspect alleged to have committed sexual assault on Edmunds Road today, according to an alert.
The suspect, a black male with very little hair wearing all black clothing and blue gloves, fled on foot, according to the alert.
State Police K-9 and airwing units are currently assisting in the search.
Much of Edmunds Road is closed to the public. State and local police officers are stationed at several sections of Edmunds and Lowell roads. Police are blocking access to Edmunds from Route 9.
Police are asking area residents and people driving through the scene if they have seen the suspect or anything suspicious in the area.
“If you see someone fitting the description of the suspect, DO NOT APPROACH THEM and call 911 immediately,” the alert says.
Wellesley Patch will provide updates as they become available.
