Police Log: Man Arrested for Drunk Driving, Endangering Children
The following information was supplied by the Wellesley Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Man Arrested for Drunk Driving With Two Children in Back Seat
A Wellesley man was arrested last week for driving under the influence of alcohol with two young children in car seats in the back of the vehicle.
James Lane, 42, of 84 Chesterton Road was observed stumbling near his vehicle following an accident with another car on Washington Street near the Hunnewell Field tennis court March 28, according to Wellesley Police records clerk Sue Morse.
When police arrived, Lane was sitting partially outside of his car’s driver side door. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and saw Lane attempt to hide a nip of rum between the driver’s seat and center console, according to Morse.
After being asked to consent to sobriety tests, Lane nearly fell to the ground while getting out of the car, Morse said.
Lane was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, two counts of child endangerment, a marked lanes violation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
Worcester Man Arrested for Drunk Driving after Witness Saw Him Swerving
Carlos Nieves, 44, of 45 Tirrell St. Apt. 3, Worcester was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol March 31 after a caller reported seeing his car driving erratically in Wellesley.
Police located Nieves’ vehicle on Route 9 and pulled him over. Officers noticed several nip bottles of alcohol strewn about the back seat of his car, Morse said.
Police, noticing Nieves’ eyes were bloodshot and glassy and his speech was slurred, determined him significantly impaired and he was placed under arrest.
