Wellesley Police and state Environmental Police have been searching since around noon for a moose spotted by residents in the neighborhoods near Reeds Pond, and as of about 3:45 p.m. had not yet been able to tranquilize the animal.

The moose was last seen in the swampy area west of Lexington Road. A member of the state Environmental Police said officers hoped the animal did not travel south to Rte. 9, which is less than a half mile from where police were last looking for the moose.

The search will continue until the moose is tranquilized, or until sunset, police said.

The photo of the disappearing moose makes me think of children's storybooks ... you know the ones that have a "what is it?" mystery running throughout and then you turn the last page and get a full, in-your-face illustration of what you've been chasing? Yeah, that's what the moose photo makes me think of.
