MassBay Home to One of "29 Who Shine"

Every year, one person from each of the state and community colleges is honored as one of 29 Who Shine.

For MassBay Community College, that shining person is Victoria Lynn Woodard, a student who has served on many of the important committees at the school, including Student Government Association, and the Domestic Violence Coalition and the Human Services Club. 

According to the profile on the 29 Who Shine site, Woodard is moving on to Framingham State University to earn her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Human Services, and her ultimate goal is to open a recovery home for women in Framingham.

"Each one of these students has a remarkable story to tell," said Governor Patrick in a press release. "Collectively, they remind us that investing in them is investing in our future.”

To be considered for 29 Who Shine, students must be Massachusetts residents who are staying in-state, have a strong academic record, and have made some contribution to civic well-being in the Commonwealth.

“Our data tell us that one year after graduation, nine out of every ten public college and university students remain here in Massachusetts, living and working or furthering their studies,” said Commissioner of Higher Education Richard M. Freeland in the release. “These students truly represent the future citizenry and workforce of the state. They are very high caliber, a sign that our future appears to be in good hands.”
