Kiwanis Get Toys Into the Hands of Teens

The club donated toys to kids at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

The Wellesley Kiwanis Club partnered with the Wellesley Toy and Gift Shop to donate toys and games to kids at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

This was the fifth year of the donation, made possible via the Doug Garron Toy Fund. Garron was a member of Kiwanis since 1960; he passed away in 2006.

Andy Brown, owner of the Wellesley Toy and Gift Shop located on Central Street, matched the toy-gift, which doubled the amount of toys for children, who ranged from youngsters to kids entering their teen years.

"Toys are one of the best tools we have to help ease children's fears during hospitalization and outpatient procedures," said Newton-Wellesley Hospital child life specialist Sierra Schaefer-Spritz. "By helping children to relax, we are not just helping them with their current experience at the hospital, but setting them up with coping skills to handle any future healthcare interventions."
