Hottest Summer Ever; On Track for Hottest Year Ever

Are you wilting in the heat, Wellesley?

So this report shouldn't surprise you.

July was the hottest on record and 2012, thus far, has been the warmest year on record since accurate record keeping began in 1895.

According to press release from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Climatic Data Center, the average temperature for the contiguous United States during July was 77.6°F, which is 3.3°F above the 20th century average.

The previous warmest July was in 1936.

Climatologists at the agency noted that by the end of July, about 63 percent of the nation was experiencing drought conditions.
