Governor Patrick Answers Budget Questions at Wellesley Media Corporation

In the most recent episode of "Inside Wellesley," Creative Programming DIrector Erich Archer speaks with Governor Deval Patrick about the budget proposal.

It's not every day the Governor comes to Wellesley. He recently sat down with the Wellesley Channel to talk about the budget plan.

Governor Deval Patrick came to Wellesley to speak about his budget plan that would call for a $1.9 billion revenue increase through a slew of changes to taxes, deductions and fees. He met with Creative Programming DIrector Erich Archer

Patrick's plan, which legislators at a recent Board of Selectmen meeting described as "ambitious," would increase funding to transportation, education and local aid

When asked, Governor Patrick tells Archer that the philosophy of the proposal is "Growth. It's really about investing in the things we know create jobs and opportunities for investment."

Patrick speaks for about 25 minutes, getting into some of the specifics of how it will affect Wellesley and the taxpayers.

According to Patrick, total taxes for families making less than $35,000 should go down. For families between $35,000 and $60,000, they should stay about the same. Above that, taxes go up "according to their ability to pay."

Recently, Patrick addressed hundreds gathered at a budget rally

I am constantly frustrated by the "Patch" not presenting information in a timely manner. Some information is presented the day after the event takes place.
In this instance were Wellesley citizen's informed of the event with Gov. Patrick? Perhaps I missed it. There are questions I would like to see answered.

As far as I understand it, this was not a public event. I was not informed of the interview until after the fact, either. We do try to run previews for events when possible, but for a lot of things, the real meat of the story is at the event itself.

Should there be events you would like to see more coverage of, you are welcome to post them on the Events page or Announcements page. http://wellesley.patch.com/events and http://wellesley.patch.com/search/announcements respectively. These put things more on my radar. An e-mail with a link also helps me consider it for the front page. As I am running both the Wellesley and the Needham sites, I rely heavily on tips from readers.

Too often an announcement of an event has come out after the event has taken place.
The Gov. tends to be a hypocrite. On the one hand he grants ILLEGALS in state tuition and on the other he wants to raise taxes to support education.
Incompetents are hired at large unjustified salaries and the Gov. claims no knowledge.
There should be no increase in taxation until the Gov. cleans up his act.

100% right Roger. And the State House withholds information about welfare recipients from House Reps who are trying to investigate and clean up the system. So according to this article families over $60,000 per year can expect to pay more in taxes! Does the Gov actually think families living on $61k or $70k are doing great and should "spread their wealth" ?!? This guys a radical just like his buddy in Washington.
