EPA Designates All Three Wellesley Colleges Green Power Partners

The distinction makes Wellesley one of the few communities in the U.S. with all of its institutions of higher education as green powered.

Wellesley, Babson and MassBay Community College have all been designated Green Power Partners.

Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency made the designation after each college declared it would take part in the town’s Power to Choose renewable energy program, according to a town announcement.

“These colleges are committed to sustainability and are implementing a wide range of environmental initiatives including water conservation and waste reduction, as well as increasing energy efficiency while using renewable energy -- making Wellesley one of the greenest college towns in America,” said a joint statement signed by spokespeople from each institution.

Wellesley Board of Selectmen chair Barbara Searle said May 21 many Wellesley residents have volunteered to be a part of the program as well.
