A Dover couple had the first baby of 2011 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Lauren Whitney McElligott was born at 12:17 a.m. Saturday morning to James and Lindsey McElligott. Lauren weighed 7 lbs. and 5 ounces.

Lindsey said she did not realize she could be the first expectant mother to deliver at Newton-Wellesley in 2011 when she entered the building Friday, Dec. 31.

"We were actually kind of surprised," she said from her room at the hospital. "I was induced early in the day, I didn't know it would progress as quickly as it did."

Lauren is the couple's first child. Of their New Year's baby, Lindsey said she would have been happy regardless of the time of Lauren's arrival.

"Turns out it was just a little earlier than expected, which is just fine," she said.
