5 Things You Need to Know Today: 'The Oldest Rivarly' Edition

Wellesley and Needham will play on Thanksgiving for the 124th time.

  1. The annual Thanksgiving Day game between the Wellesley Raiders and Needham Rockets will take place tomorrow at beginning at 10 a.m.
  2. Yesterday, the Boston Herald ran a story on the country’s oldest public high school rivalry, which began Nov. 30, 1882. (They've only met 123 times because the rivarly took some years off during World War I, according to the Needham Channel's Mike Riley.)
  3. The Raiders are 2-8 on the season going into tomorrow’s game, but the Rockets are 7-3. They’ll make the playoffs with a win.
  4. Wellesley won the first-ever annual Thanksgiving Day game 4-0.
  5. Tickets are on sale at for $8 today, and $10 at Hunnewell Field tomorrow.
