2013 Wellesley Town Elections Are Next Week

No contested races for elected officials, but room for write-in campaigns for Town Meeting Membership in some precincts.

 

 

Town-wide elections start up in a week's time, and there are a few seats still to be claimed.

There are a number of boards coming up for elections. Town Clerk Kathy Nagle reports that there are no contested races for elected town offices this year. The race for Town Meeting Members is a little more interesting, however. 

There are contested races for Town Meeting Members in Precincts B, D G and H. However, in Precincts A, E and F, there are too few people running--meaning interested residents can start a write-in campaign--after they Clerk Nagle at 781-431-1019 ext 2250.

If you are interested in announcing a write-in campaign, post an announcement and e-mail editor Grahame Turner to spread the word for your candidacy. 

In Precinct C, there are ten candidates for the ten seats available.

When you head to the polls, make note of your location. The locations are below. If you are not sure which precinct you belong in, see the Secretary of the Commonwealth's website for more information.

The following list of offices which will be on the ballot was pulled from the Town Website:

  • Board of Selectmen, Board of Assessors, Board of Health, Natural Resources Commission, School Committee will elect one position for each board. These are three year terms.
  • There are two positions available on Library Trustees, and Recreation Commission for three year terms.
  • The Planning Board has one five year term and 1 partial term for one year.
  • Board of Public Works has one three year term and 1 partial term for one year.
  • Housing Authority has one five year term.
  • The Moderator will be elected for a one year term.
  • 10 Town Meeting members will be elected for each precinct.

The Swellesley Report reminded us yesterday that town elections are a week away.

Write-in Town Meeting Candidates Needed - Precincts A, E, and F need additional candidates to fill the seats available for election this year. Residents who are interested in doing a write-in campaign for these seats should contact Town Clerk Kathy Nagle for details.

Absentee Ballots - Absentee ballots for the Annual Town Election are now available. Voters who are eligible for vote absentee for the town elections may file applications at any time or vote in person. Absentee applications must include the voter’s name and voting address and instructions as to where to send the ballot. An application may be filed by the voter or a family member. Applications may be filed by mail or email, but must include an original signature. 

Polling Places remain in the  same locations. Some entrance doors have been changed to enhance security at school locations. The location within the Library (Precinct G) will be the media room, please follow signs. Polls open 7 am- 8 pm on March 5.
