The Associates of the Boston Public Library Presents Annual “Literary Lights for Children”
The Associates of the Boston Public Library presented the fourteenth annual Literary Lights for Children awards ceremony and tea party on Sunday, September 30th in the Library’s historic Bates Hall Reading Room. The award winners – Kevin Hawkes, Christopher Paolini, Mitali Perkins, and Gary Schmidt – were honored for their extraordinary contributions to children’s literature. The three authors and one illustrator chosen as this year’s “Literary Lights” have collectively won dozens of major awards for their inspiring books written for children and young adults.
Literary Lights for Children is held each year to raise awareness of children’s literature, promote literacy, honor children’s authors, and raise much needed funding for the Boston Public Library’s children’s services and special collections.
The Associates of the Boston Public Library is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the Boston Public Library’s special collections of rare books, manuscripts, and other items of significant historic interest. The Associates is working to ensure continued public access to these irreplaceable treasures by underwriting their conservation, cataloging, digitization, and exhibition. Through these efforts, the Associates is helping the Boston Public Library to achieve its fundamental mission of providing the highest level of free educational resources to the citizens of the Commonwealth, as well as preserving knowledge, culture, and history for the benefit of all.
